Chelsea Rae first introduced me to the green tea latte from Starbucks. So naturally I asked her how she makes it at home. Read on to learn how to make perfection.
Start with Matcha powder (this can be bought at Whole Foods, World Market, Home Goods, or even Amazon. But I'm sure it's available at many other locations)
Personally, I love the taste of coconut so sometimes I'll add a teaspoon of coconut syrup to my latte or even replace milk with coconut milk ( which is a little more bitter but it's a personal preference. Almond milk is a great substitution as well. Really your options are endless!)
I prefer to heat my latte on the stove top but you could also use the microwave. First, heat the milk on the stove top on low to medium heat until it's at your desired temperature. Do not add the matcha powder until the milk is completely heated because this allows the matcha so dissolve better. Have you ever experienced a gulp of straight matcha powder? Not ideal.
You want to use at least a tablespoon of matcha powder. You could add more or less depending on your preference. I am content with one tablespoon. Now, recently I have been loving this sweet matcha powder I bought at world market because I do not have to add any sweetener to it. It rang up to $9.99 which is a steal considering you pay $5 for a cup at Starbucks.
But if you only have regular matcha powder that is ok too because you can easily add a little sweetener if that is what you desire. Once you stir in your matcha powder you are all set! Just pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!
